Give the ones you love wings to fly, roots to come back and reasons to stay

Dalai Lama

Growing up, my house always had animals as a part of it, dogs, cats, rats, hamsters, and I think even some ducks at one point. I always appreciated the exposure to the different animals and tried to learn the personalities of each one. My favorite, and the one that started my love of birds, was my cockatiel Smokey. We had a bond that I never experienced with other animals and I couldn’t believe how smart he could be, learning to mimic my noises and bad manners. After that I knew I was a bird person for life, but it wouldn’t be until many years later when I was ready to care for another one.

We now have three awesome birds-Tiki, a Solomon Islands Eclectus. Kona, a Goffin’s Cockatoo, and Cinnamon Bun, a cinnamon cockatiel. I get to share that experience with my own children, helping them experience these amazing animals up close and help them create their own memories and bonds.

…but why bird shirts?

You have to start somewhere right? As a creative-type t-shirts just seemed like the right place and fit in with our casual lifestyle. Plus, there weren’t many options out there to show-off my best friends compared to other pets. So I decided to create bird shirts that our family wanted to wear-starting with the first member of the flock, our cockatiel. In fact, most days you will find at least one of us sporting a Birdwear shirt.

We are starting to expand beyond parrot t-shirts, so keep an eye out for mugs, pins, and even some unique bird-themed items. We hope you enjoy the designs as much as we do, and would love to hear your feedback or ideas.

A way to give back

It’s actually our goal to use Birdwear as a means to help more people experience the joy of parrot companions and to help care for parrots in need. We hope to use the website as a way to educate and entertain people with all things avian, from memes all the way to conservation.

We also want to give back, by both volunteering and using a portion of the profits to fund projects and organizations that help care for parrots and other animals in need. We are also working towards building an educational bird sanctuary, The Texas Bird Ranch that can provide even more support and visibility for these amazing parrots.

Are you involved in rescuing birds? We would love to hear more about the work you do.
